Description

Following a post at http://www.freepbx.org/forum/freepbx/tips-and-tricks/free-cnam-project I have added a data source to query freeCNAM.org

Source added as r498 to repository.

Downloaded and tested with a few numbers, but I'm not getting hits with any numbers in this area. Is there any clue as to what geopgraphical areas are served? Searches are very fast. I wonder if the dev's would be interested in reporting cnam back.

I have no idea, I just googled a few business numbers in Chicago area

e.g. 7733602053 = COSTCO WHOLESAL

I tried the two Krispy Kreme numbers for Chicago, but they did not get a hit.

This source only has 2 million numbers so far, so I think it will be the last one in my list at present.

hmmmmmmm, Krispy Kream.

I posted a follow-up to the FreePBX post above asking same.

thought I was onto something with 11 digit/10 digit lookups, but both work. My testing is starting to yield some CNAM, but results are hit and miss.

Figured it out. I do a search on a number and it gets no CNAM. I do the same search a few minutes later and by then the database has been populated for that number. And it is fast, this is looking like a really good resource. In the last few hours a few hundred thousand entries have been added.

I think they are populating lookups after a miss. The good news is the Krispy lookup is now working.

Judging from this page: http://tnid.us/ it looks like it is all CAN/US NPA numbers. If the API ever gets disabled, this page can be used.

Unfortunately not, the CNAM displayed is an image.
The CNAM is not present to be scraped :-(

The source has the following

            <!--  @ @ @ @ @ @ @ @ @ @ @ @ @ @ @ @ @ @ @ @ @ @ @ @ @ @ @ @ @ @ @ @ @ @  -->
            <!--  @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@  -->
            <!--  @@@  Need API Access to our Investigator-Quality Data Sources?  @@@  -->
            <!--  @@@       Email us at sales@tnID.us for more information.      @@@  -->
            <!--  @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@  -->

Uh oh. I hope this is not the start of a trend. Do we need a Superfecta capcha breaker?

Now I am thinking the "free" service could be a carrot to beef up their database and promote the site.

I wouldn't be surprised if the "beta" API turns into a premium paid service :-/

For php to OCR images and turn them into readable text would require a bit of grunt, and would slow down the response time a fair amount.

I have just added #532 for another free source which could be used if this one goes away.
